WHAT IS AWANA? The acronym AWANA comes from the Bible, II Timothy 2:15 and means “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.” The program is a weekly, 1-1/2 hour Bible club for boys and girls ages 2 (must be 2 by September 30) and up. AWANA meets each Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
Each Wednesday we will divide into three sections: (1) handbook time, where clubbers memorize God’s word and learn to apply it to their lives; (2) game time, with a variety of age-appropriate activities and games; and (3) council time, where earned awards are given out, announcements are made, clubbers learn and sing songs and choruses, and hear a brief gospel message from the Bible. In addition, we have special activities for the children from time to time (Grand Prix, AWANA Games, etc.). Our leaders are “pre-screened” volunteer adults who will work with the boys and girls and love and pray for them regularly. This time is seen as a service to the Lord, to your children, and to your entire family.
Clubbers need to come prepared each week. They will need to bring their uniform, Bible, AWANA book, and money for tithing each week. They will receive awards for bringing these things, as well as for attending church and/or Sunday School regularly in their own church. Parents can help by encouraging the clubber’s preparation each week. Game time is played outside as weather permits (occasionally in the Fellowship Hall for inclement weather). Appropriate play clothes and shoes are necessary for safe, enjoyable and comfortable play. (Clubbers will be required to wear closed-toed shoes.)
AWANA is over each Wednesday at about 7:00 PM. We ask that you pick up your child promptly, but be courteous if we go over a few minutes and allow your child to complete whatever activity he/she is in.
