“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
One of the most important things we can do to continue our progress towards “Christ-likeness” is to learn “all things whatsoever Christ has taught” (Matthew 28:20). Though we can’t learn everything there is to know in just one or two days (nor in one or two “decades”!), we should be constantly growing in our knowledge of the Word of God…and learning better how to apply it in the lost and fallen culture that we live in all around us. To help you grow, the Evangelism and Discipleship Committee is offering several different Discipleship Classes this fall as options for you to choose from based on what you think would benefit your Christian walk at this time in your life. These classes will all begin on September 12th (with a few exceptions). Sign up lists are provided in the Bell Tower area. Please sign up for a class you want or call the church office by Sunday, September 5th. Each class will have a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12 students.
PLACE Ministry (Sept 12 – October 17) 3:00 to 4:30 PM - This is a 6-week course taught by Pastor Louis will help you know better how to choose which committees or tasks you are designed by God best to do as you serve the Lord inside and outside of the church using the power of your “Spiritual Gifts”.
New Members Class (Sept 19) – This one-day course is taught by Pastor Louis from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM (lunch provided) and is for those who have recently become members of Loris FBC or just want to know more about what this church is, what is our purpose and beliefs that bind us together, and what does it mean to become a “member” of this church.
Experiencing God (Sept 12 – Dec 12) 4:00 to 5:30 PM - This 12-week course, taught by Pat Wooten, will help you know when God is speaking to you, recognize God’s activity around you, the importance of adjusting your life to God and His ways, and identify what God wants to do through you.
Journey 1 (Sept 12 – Dec 19) 4:00 to 5:30 PM – This 13-week course, taught by Pat Piver, is designed to help you learn the basics of what it means to “be” a real Christian and how to “become” a real Christian. Then it teaches you what Jesus Christ expects from you now that you claim to be a “follower” of Him.
Grief Share (Sept 12 – Dec 19) 4:00 to 5:30 PM – This 13 week share group ministry, led by Patty Sue Sanders, will help and encourage you as you try to cope with the loss of a spouse, child, family member or friend.
Christianity and Wokeness (Sept 12 – Nov 14) 5:00 to 6:30 PM – This 8-week class, taught by Pastor Louis will read and discuss the book on “Wokeness” written by Dr. Owen Strachan to better understand the impacts that Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, and Black Lives Matter are having on our Culture and the Christian Church in America…and how best to respond to each of these in a Christ-like manner and method.
Mentoring (start and length of time varies) – Begin “mentored” by a mature “Christian” mentor will help you understand what the “Disciplines of a Godly Man” (for men) or the “Disciplines of a Godly Woman” (for women) are. As you learn what these biblical mandated disciplines are…your mentor will help in guiding you to ways to implement these disciplines into your lives so that you know what to be thinking and doing to be more “Christ-like” in a non-Christian culture.
