Awana: WHAT IS AWANA? The acronym AWANA comes from the Bible, II Timothy 2:15 and means “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.” The program is a weekly, 1-1/2 hour Bible club for boys and girls ages 2 (must be 2 by September 30) and up. AWANA meets each Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.
Each Wednesday we will divide into three sections: (1) handbook time, where clubbers memorize God’s word and learn to apply it to their lives; (2) game time, with a variety of age-appropriate activities and games; and (3) council time, where earned awards are given out, announcements are made, clubbers learn and sing songs and choruses, and hear a brief gospel message from the Bible. In addition, we have special activities for the children from time to time (Grand Prix, AWANA Games, etc.). Our leaders are “pre-screened” volunteer adults who will work with the boys and girls and love and pray for them regularly. This time is seen as a service to the Lord, to your children, and to your entire family.
Clubbers need to come prepared each week. They will need to bring their uniform, Bible, AWANA book, and money for tithing each week. They will receive awards for bringing these things, as well as for attending church and/or Sunday School regularly in their own church. Parents can help by encouraging the clubber’s preparation each week. Game time is played outside as weather permits (occasionally in the Fellowship Hall for inclement weather). Appropriate play clothes and shoes are necessary for safe, enjoyable and comfortable play. (Clubbers will be required to wear closed-toed shoes.)
AWANA is over each Wednesday at about 7:00 PM. We ask that you pick up your child promptly, but be courteous if we go over a few minutes and allow your child to complete whatever activity he/she is in.
Good News Club: We have a started a Good News Club at Loris Elementary as a means of taking the “Good News” of Jesus Christ to children who may not be attending a church and/or may have never heard of what Jesus has done for them. Our “Good News Club” meets once a week for two hours after school on the campus of Loris Elementary. During a “Good News Club” meeting, all of the children attending get to participate in singing, games, crafts, and hearing a Bible story that all contributes towards giving them a biblically-based exposure to just how much God loves them and what He has done to earn them access into Heaven.
If your child attends Loris Elementary we would love to have them be a part of our “Good News Club!”
Worship – Kid Style: Preschoolers ask a lot of questions, don’t they? “Why is the sky blue?” “What’s that?” “How come she…?” Curiosity causes them to ask questions as they seek to learn and understand more about their world. Worship Kids Style will help them answer questions they may have about Jesus’ birth, what God wants them to do, and how they can help other people. Not only will we be teaching your preschoolers, we will have the opportunity to interact with you and your families. Worship Kids Style meets on Sunday mornings during the morning worship times of 10:15am – 11:45am. It is for ages 3 years to 2nd grade. We would love to have your children come and join us for morning Worship!
